The use of songs in English
classes is a challenge that many teachers prefer to avoid because of the
diversity of preferences of students in relation to music styles. The aim of
this paper is to discuss HOW the use of songs in the development of EFL lessons
at a Brazilian public high school served as a context for addressing linguistic
aspects and cross-cutting issues in the classroom. The proposed activities
related to the songs were meant to lead the PROCESS OF LANGUAGE LEARNING beyond
the routine of exposure and practice of written exercises and also TO generate
moments of discussion and reflection.
